What is the point of Beef Jerky Chew?

There is this guy at my school that does it and me and my friend know he chews but he said it was only beef jerky and we were like what? I dont get it, why not just eat beef jerky instead of "chewing" it? Is there tobacco in it? Is it bad for you? Please answer i need to know!
